This title, taken from Gaston Bachelard's Poetics of Space, encompasses several projects connected by an interest in stories of female becoming. The project seems to have begun in the summer of 2006, with a self-imposed challenge to watch as many films about female becoming (i.e. "chick flicks") as I could before summer's end, collecting notable quotes, among other things. This text has found its way into these projects in a couple of different ways.

With the most recent configuration of the project, Union, I focused on one such film, Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, and became interested in the collaborative creation of the central character in the film as she comes of age in a foreign country.
